Petition related PDF Readers

In a current campaing the FSFE has setup a Petition For The Removal Of Proprietary Software Advertising On Public Websites (available in 10 Languages). It is part of the PDFreaders Campagin you should know about if you’re running a website and if you’re offering PDF files for download.

The petition asks public bodies and institutions to not promote a software monolpoly on their websites but instead offer choice:

What would you think about a sign on the highway stating “You need a Volkswagen to drive on this road. Contact your Volkswagen dealer for a gratis test drive – Your Government”? When it comes to PDF reading software, many governments do this every day. With the pdfreaders.org campaign we will turn the spotlight on public institutions who behave in this way, exposing how frequently such non-Free advertisements appear.
